The defence team representing former Kampala Lord Mayor and opposition PFF leader Erias Lukwago has filed a bail application seeking his immediate release, citing his deteriorating health condition.
The application was filed through the Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS) before High Court Judge David Matovu.
Speaking after filing the application, lead defence lawyer Medard Sseggona said the court had already approved the proposed sureties and that the defence was now seeking bail for Lukwago.
Sseggona said the application had been prompted by the serious medical condition Lukwago is currently battling, which, according to the defence, requires urgent medical attention.
The lawyers told court that Lukwago is suffering from several serious medical conditions, including hypertension, cylindrical bronchiectasis and residual cervical radiculitis.
The defence argues that his health condition warrants his immediate release on bail to enable him to access the necessary medical care.
The defence team has presented four sureties in support of the application. They include Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze Bakireke, former MP Moses Kasibante, Lukwago’s brother Hajj Abdul Sewankambo and Chrysestom Katumba.
The application now awaits consideration by Justice David Matovu, who will determine whether Lukwago should be granted bail.
