The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, has commissioned the groundbreaking for the construction of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Statistics House in Entebbe, describing the project as a major step towards strengthening evidence-based planning and national development.
Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, Musasizi commended the UBOS Board, management and staff, led by Board Chairperson Dr. Albert Byamugisha and Executive Director Dr. Chris Mukiza, for guiding the project to implementation.
The minister praised UBOS for conducting Uganda’s first digital national census and for positioning itself as one of the leading statistical institutions in the region.
Musasizi emphasised that reliable data is critical for effective decision-making, saying the new facility will provide a modern working environment to improve productivity and enhance the production, management and dissemination of official statistics.
He said the government-funded project, financed through taxpayers’ money, will include statistical training hubs, innovation laboratories and a modern data centre.
Musasizi added that government will continue pursuing Uganda’s bid to host the East African Statistics Hub, noting that the new facility will strengthen the country’s position as a regional centre for statistical excellence.
