The Electoral Commission will tomorrow begin conducting parish-level committee elections across the country as the ongoing Local Council electoral process moves from the village to the parish level.
Addressing journalists, Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said the Commission is proceeding to LC II elections following the successful completion of Women Council Committee and Village Executive Committee elections in 71,253 villages.
Byabakama said nominations for Women Parish Committees have been concluded, while campaigns that began on 4th August ended today, paving the way for elections tomorrow in more than 12,000 parishes countrywide.
He explained that unlike village elections, where all eligible voters participated, the Women Parish Committee elections will be conducted exclusively by members of the Women Village Committees.
The Electoral Commission chairperson also announced that campaigns for Parish Executive Committees, which started on 4th August, will end on 9th August ahead of elections scheduled for 10th August.
Only members of Village Executive Committees will be eligible to vote in these elections.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has released the roadmap for the Ajumani Constituency parliamentary by-election, with polling scheduled for 7th September.
Byabakama urged all candidates and stakeholders to comply with electoral laws and guidelines throughout the process, calling on participants to maintain peace and support free, fair and credible parish-level elections.
