The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially launched the roadmap for the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election following the death of area Member of Parliament, Gen. Moses Ali.
On Monday, 3 August, the Commission convened a stakeholders’ meeting at the Adjumani District headquarters, bringing together political leaders, security agencies, civil society organisations, and other key stakeholders to unveil the election programme and rally support for a peaceful and credible electoral process.
The Adjumani West parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Gen. Moses Ali on 18 June 2026.
Electoral Commission spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said the Commission is legally required to organise and conclude a parliamentary by-election within 60 days of receiving formal notification of the vacancy from the Clerk to Parliament.
Mucunguzi said the roadmap outlines key electoral activities, including the update of the National Voters Register, public display of the voters’ register for verification, nomination of candidates, the campaign period, and polling day.
Nine aspirants have already expressed interest in the seat. They include Daniel Izale, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU)-endorsed candidate; Justin Mawadri, Richard Madrara, James Leku Pilli, Nixon Owole, Capt. Stephen Mamawi, Ben Anyama, and Santos Piro Eruaga, all seeking the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag; and Patrick Tandrupasi.
Gen. Moses Ali represented Adjumani West in Parliament from 2016 until his death. Before that, he served as Member of Parliament for East Moyo County in Moyo District from 1994 to 2016.
