NRM Allocates UGX 5 Billion for Local Council Election Preparations

NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has allocated UGX 5 billion to support its preparations for the forthcoming Local Council I (LCI), Local Council II (LCII), and Women Council elections.

According to the Electoral Commission, the elections are scheduled to take place later this month across more than 72,000 villages throughout the country.

Speaking to journalists at the NRM headquarters on Kyadondo Road in Kampala, the party’s Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, said the party has already started mobilization and organizational activities ahead of the polls.

Dr. Odoi said the party is aiming to win between 90 and 99 percent of villages nationwide, expressing confidence in the NRM’s grassroots structures.

He also announced that the party will conduct internal baraza meetings on 10th July 2026 to fill vacant positions left by members who have either passed away or left the party.

Dr. Odoi explained that candidates who emerge successful through the baraza process will be endorsed by the NRM Secretary General to represent the party before proceeding to the official nomination exercise at the sub-county level.

The preparations come as political parties gear up for the upcoming grassroots elections, which are expected to determine leadership at the village and parish levels across the country.
