Kalangala Woman MP Aidah Nabayiga Sworn In as Member of Parliament

Kalangala Woman MP Aidah Nabayiga Sworn In

Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament Aidah Nabayiga has been sworn in by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, officially assuming her duties as a legislator.

Nabayiga took the oath of office at the beginning of today’s plenary sitting, marking her formal entry into the 12th Parliament.

She was declared the winner of the Kalangala District Woman MP by-election held in June 2026 after obtaining 12,642 votes, defeating National Unity Platform candidate Irene Nampala, who received 7,474 votes.

The by-election was held following the death of Hellen Nakimuli, who passed away before taking the oath of office despite having been re-elected for a second term as Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament.

After her swearing-in ceremony, Nabayiga was welcomed by the Government Chief Whip and fellow National Resistance Movement legislators.

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa then presented her with copies of the Constitution of Uganda and Parliament’s Rules of Procedure.

Nabayiga’s swearing-in fills the vacant Kalangala District Woman MP seat and allows the constituency to resume full representation in Parliament.
