President Yoweri Museveni has clarified that his new political slogan for the 2026–2031 term, “No More Sleep,” has been widely misunderstood by some Ugandans as “No Sleeping.”
While delivering the State of the Nation Address at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Thursday, President Museveni explained that the slogan is intended to signify a renewed commitment to tackling corruption, preventing the misuse of public resources, and eliminating complacency and ineffective leadership within government institutions.
The President emphasized that there should be no room for misconceptions regarding the message, noting that it represents a new phase of vigilance, accountability, and action in government.
According to Museveni, leaders at all levels will be expected to demonstrate greater commitment to service delivery and ensure that public resources are utilized effectively for the benefit of citizens.
He warned opportunistic leaders against laxity, stressing that his new term in office will demand higher standards of performance, responsibility, and accountability from all public officials.
“Ugandans deserve quality services and committed leadership that can drive the country towards sustained growth and development,” the President said.
On matters of national development, Museveni announced that the government has injected Shs1.6 trillion into the Uganda Development Bank (UDB) to provide affordable financing to manufacturers and large-scale farmers.
He said the funding is aimed at boosting production, creating employment opportunities, and accelerating economic growth through increased industrialization and value addition.
The President reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening key sectors of the economy by expanding access to affordable credit, particularly for commercial farmers and manufacturers who play a critical role in transforming the country’s economy.
Museveni also criticized the culture of demanding allowances before carrying out government duties, describing the practice as a form of parasitism that undermines efforts to fight poverty and improve livelihoods.
He urged government officials to focus on mobilizing communities and effectively implementing poverty alleviation programs rather than seeking personal benefits before delivering services.
The President further warned that public servants must prioritize the interests of citizens and ensure that public resources are used efficiently to achieve tangible results in wealth creation and socio-economic transformation.
