Speaker Oboth Pledges to Empower MPs in Executing Constitutional Mandate

Speaker Oboth Pledges to Empower MPs

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Markson Oboth has pledged to empower all Members of Parliament to effectively execute their constitutional mandate of representation, oversight, legislation and appropriation.

Speaking during his communication to Parliament, Oboth thanked MPs for entrusting him with the leadership of the House and expressed appreciation for the confidence they had placed in him.

He pledged to serve diligently, fairly and equitably, noting that leadership is a call to service and stewardship rather than a pursuit of privilege.

Oboth also urged legislators to remain steadfast and committed to their responsibilities by ensuring they are available and adequately prepared for parliamentary business.

Meanwhile, parliamentary plenary proceedings were delayed for nearly 30 minutes after the microphone system broke down shortly after Speaker Oboth entered the chamber to preside over the sitting.

The Speaker temporarily stepped out as technicians worked to restore the system before proceedings resumed.

Today’s sitting is expected to approve the appointments of Vice President Jessica Alupo and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

Parliament is also expected to announce members of the sectoral committees and the Parliamentary Appointments Committee.
