Thailand Imposes 21-Day Quarantine for Travelers from Uganda and DRC Over Ebola Concerns

Authorities in Thailand have announced heightened precautionary measures against Ebola

Thailand has introduced a mandatory 21-day quarantine for travelers arriving from Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo following concerns over the spread of Ebola Virus Disease.

The preventive measure, which took effect today, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 6:00 pm, was approved by Thailand’s National Communicable Disease Committee as part of efforts to prevent importation of the virus after a recent regional outbreak.

The World Health Organization has classified the outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, issuing the highest level of alert to coordinate global response measures.

According to WHO data, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reported 867 suspected cases and 214 deaths, while Uganda has recorded five confirmed cases and one fatality.

In response, health authorities across affected regions have intensified surveillance, contact tracing, public awareness campaigns, and border screening measures to contain further spread of the disease.
