Police Urge Vigilance as Muslims Mark Eid Amid Ebola Concerns and Tight Security

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala

The Kampala Metropolitan Police has called on Muslims and all Ugandans to remain vigilant and adhere to public health guidelines aimed at preventing the spread of Ebola and other infectious diseases.

In a statement issued by Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala, police said security personnel have been deployed around mosques and other places of worship to ensure peaceful celebrations during the festive period.

The force noted that it is working closely with Muslim leaders across different divisions to address potential crime risks, safety threats, and other vulnerabilities associated with the celebrations.

Members of the public have been advised to stay alert, report any suspicious individuals or activities, avoid travelling alone at night, and whenever possible, move in groups.

Ugandans were also encouraged to carry fully charged mobile phones and avoid sharing real-time travel plans on social media.

Joint security agencies said they have intensified patrols and covert operations across the country to prevent any acts of violence during the holiday period.
