Outgoing State Minister for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Cooperation, John Mulimba, has appealed to Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to establish a secure office where Members of Parliament and members of the public can safely submit information on corruption allegations, including claims linked to former Speaker Anita Annet Among.
Speaking to the press at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala today, Mulimba said Uganda must urgently confront systemic corruption and the growing accumulation of illicit wealth, which he argued is undermining public service delivery and costing taxpayers heavily.
He called for stronger anti-corruption enforcement and enhanced accountability within government and political institutions, saying these reforms are necessary to improve governance, public services, and the integrity of electoral processes.
Mulimba welcomed recent anti-corruption operations, urging investigating agencies to widen their scope to ensure that all individuals implicated in corruption-related scandals are held accountable.
He also called for investigations into alleged voter bribery within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat during recent party elections, claiming that some officials used cash handouts to influence outcomes.
In addition, the minister proposed the creation of a special bureau where citizens can confidentially report cases of corruption, abuse of office, and election-related violence without fear of victimization, saying such a mechanism would strengthen transparency and public trust in institutions.
