Cardinal Wamala Commends Uganda Human Rights Commission for Promoting Human Rights

His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala

His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala has commended the Uganda Human Rights Commission for its continued efforts in promoting and protecting human rights in the country.

Cardinal Wamala made the remarks on Monday morning at his residence in Nsambya while meeting a delegation from the Commission led by Commissioner Lamex Omara Peter.

The 99-year-old cardinal said he has consistently supported the Commission and prayed that its work continues to bear fruit for the benefit of Ugandans.

Commissioner Omara said the visit was intended to recognize Cardinal Wamala’s contribution to the promotion of human rights, as well as the Catholic Church’s role in shaping moral values and providing education, health care, and other social services that uphold human dignity.

He noted that the Church’s mission aligns closely with the Commission’s mandate of promoting and protecting human rights in Uganda, particularly through education, public awareness, defending vulnerable groups, and supporting peaceful conflict resolution.

The Uganda Human Rights Commission said it will continue collaborating with the Catholic Church and other partners to advance human rights across the country.
