President Yoweri Museveni has officially taken the oath for his seventh term as President of the Republic of Uganda at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
President Museveni took the oath at 11:50 a.m. before proceeding to sign the official protocols marking the beginning of his new term in office.
Chief Justice Flavian Zeija presided over the swearing-in ceremony, administering both the Oath of Allegiance and the Presidential Oath. He later handed the President the instruments of power, including the Constitution, National Flag, Presidential Standard, and the Sword.
It was the first time President Museveni took the oath of office without First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni standing beside him during the ceremony.
The function attracted tens of thousands of people, including between 30 and 35 heads of state and foreign delegations, government officials, and Ugandans from different parts of the country.
Earlier, Electoral Commission Chairperson Simon Byabakama officially presented the election results and declared Museveni President-elect before the Chief Justice administered the oaths.
Speaking after the ceremony, Norbert Mao, the Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament-elect for Laroo-Pece Division, urged President Museveni to fulfill his promises to Ugandans, saying citizens expect economic prosperity and accountable governance.
Mao said the President should avoid prioritizing politics at the expense of service delivery, arguing that excessive political activity delays development, wastes resources, and consumes valuable time. He also called on Museveni to focus on uniting Ugandans during the new term.
