Security Tightens During President Museveni Swearing-In

Business activity within Kampala’s Central Business District remained subdued today, with few buyers seen in most commercial areas as the country observed a public holiday in honour of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony.

Reports indicate that many business operators were encouraged to observe the holiday announced for the inauguration ceremony held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

However, several shops around Ham Building along Ssebaana Road, Ben Kiwanuka Street, and Hamis Road continued operating normally despite the holiday.

Taxi and bus parks also remained operational, with travelers booking journeys while others returned to Kampala from upcountry destinations.

Security remained heavily deployed across different parts of Kampala, with personnel from the Police, the Army, and anti-riot units maintaining patrols throughout the city.

Tear gas trucks and mobile police patrol pickups were stationed at major junctions to reinforce security and maintain order during the inauguration activities.

Meanwhile, checkpoints along major highways leading into the city remained strict, with security officers conducting spot checks on vehicles entering Kampala.
