Nabakooba Directs Uganda Land Commission to Develop Roadmap to Boost Land Revenue and Curb Fraud

The Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba

The Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba, has directed the Uganda Land Commission to develop a clear land roadmap strategy aimed at increasing revenue from land transactions across the country.

Nabakooba issued the directive during a meeting with Commission officials at the Ministry headquarters in Kampala, where they reviewed progress, achievements, and operational challenges under her leadership.

She stressed the need for clear and enforceable guidelines to prevent the conversion of government land from leasehold to freehold, warning that such practices could lead to the loss of public land and reduced government revenue.

The Minister also called for accelerated digitalization of land management systems, saying it is critical in addressing persistent challenges such as double titling, land fraud, and the loss or duplication of land titles.

She further emphasized that modernizing the land administration system would improve transparency, strengthen accountability, and enhance efficiency in land governance.
