The High Court has convicted Christopher OkelloOnyum on four counts of murder in connection with the killing of four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre, in a case that has shocked the nation.
Justice Alice Komuhangi delivered the judgment during a mobile court session held at Ggaba Community Church grounds under tight security, allowing members of the public to follow the proceedings.
OkelloOnyum was found guilty of killing Gideon Eteku, Keisha Agen Orwoth Otim, Ignatius Sseruyange, and Ryan Odeke on April 2, 2026, at the daycare centre in Ggaba.
During the trial, the prosecution presented CCTV footage placing the convict at the scene and argued that the murders were deliberate and premeditated.
The defense had raised an insanity plea, citing his prior admission to Butabika National Referral Hospital. However, the judge rejected the claim, ruling that OkelloOnyum was mentally sound at the time of committing the offences.
The court will now proceed to the mitigation phase before sentencing, which is expected to draw significant public interest given the gravity of the case.
