The Acting President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Lina Zedriga, has called on government to release all political prisoners as a way of honoring the legacy of the late Hellen Nakimuli.
Zedriga made the remarks during the send-off mass at Namungoona Orthodox Church, where she described Nakimuli as a leader who stood firmly for justice and fairness.
She said Nakimuli served beyond her constituency, consistently advocating for equal rights for all Ugandans.
She added that continued detention without trial contradicts the values Nakimuli upheld in her public service, arguing that the release of political prisoners would serve as a fitting tribute to her commitment to justice and human rights.
Meanwhile, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, said government is reviewing concerns related to political prisoners.
He also noted that Robert Kyagulanyi, the NUP president, is free to return to the country without any restrictions.
