Bobi Wine Accuses Electoral Commission of Voter Fraud Ahead of Presidential Polls

NUP leader and presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu

With just seven days remaining before the presidential elections, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader and presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of widespread voter fraud and deliberate obstruction.

The accusations, made through his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), focus on the EC’s alleged refusal to release the National Voters’ Register and what Kyagulanyi describes as persistent electoral irregularities that have cost many NUP members their elective positions.

Kyagulanyi claims the delay in releasing the register, legally required to be made available at least 14 days before the election is a calculated move to conceal fraudulent practices.

He cited alleged multiple voter entries, inconsistencies in voter details, and the continued presence of deceased individuals on the register as major concerns.

The NUP leader further alleged that the government’s response to attempts to expose these irregularities has been to suppress whistleblowers.

He pointed to the arrest of Dr. Sarah Bireete and the developers of the Fannon App, which he said was created to help citizens identify discrepancies in the voters’ register.

According to Kyagulanyi, voter location slips have also played a critical role in uncovering what he termed “criminal schemes,” claiming they are exposing electoral malpractices on a daily basis.

While he did not present specific evidence to substantiate the allegations, Kyagulanyi has consistently raised concerns about the fairness and transparency of the electoral process.

These concerns come amid criticism of the electoral framework, under which incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power for more than three decades, appoints all officials responsible for managing the election.
