IGP Byakagaba Urges Public Cooperation as Security Efforts Ramp Up for Peaceful Holiday Season

Police chief, Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba

As the Christmas and New Year festivities approach, Uganda’s police chief, Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba, has urged the public to work hand in hand with law enforcement to ensure a safe and joyful holiday season.

In a national address, Byakagaba confirmed that the Uganda Police Force, along with other security agencies, has significantly increased security measures across the country.

He reassured Ugandans that their safety would be prioritized as the police ramp up their presence in key locations, including popular holiday destinations, shopping areas, and public events.

Highlighting the unique nature of this year’s festive season, Byakagaba noted that it coincides with the lead-up to the 2026 general elections, a period that naturally requires heightened vigilance from security forces.

As a result, police will be maintaining a watchful eye on both celebrations and any potential threats to public safety.

While ensuring a safe environment, the police chief urged the public to remain responsible in their celebrations, avoid risky behavior, and stay alert to their surroundings.

He also reminded Ugandans to cooperate with security personnel, who will be deployed in various parts of the country to assist with crowd control and safety measures.

In his message, Byakagaba wished the nation a peaceful and joyous festive period, encouraging everyone to celebrate with unity and care as they look forward to the New Year.
