17 Candidates Cleared to Contest Luweero Parliamentary Seats in 2026 Elections

Seventeen candidates have been officially nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest for the four parliamentary seats in Luweero District ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The nomination exercise, held at the district headquarters, was presided over by the Luweero District Returning Officer, Sam Agaba Rutemba.

Day one of the process saw a mix of candidates from major political parties and independents securing their place on the ballot.

In Katikamu North, the race will feature Denis Sekabira of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Ronald Kasajja Bazannyanengo from the Democratic Front (DF), along with two independent candidates, Ronald Ndawula and Umar Kasule.

Katikamu South also drew significant interest, with Hassan Kirumira (NUP), Marvin Mugisha (NRM), Milly Nattembo (PFF), and George Ssemakula (DF) all nominated to contest.

Five additional independent candidates Michael Kintu, Zena Nasur, Patricia Magara, Peter Nsibambi Kamanje, and Alfred Muwanga were also cleared, though their specific constituencies were not disclosed at the time of nomination.

For the Luweero District Woman MP seat, nominations went to Brenda Nabukenya (NUP), Agnes Kirabo Nantongo (NRM), Maurine Nakuya (DF), and Rahma Bisaso, who is running as an independent.

The nomination exercise is part of the Electoral Commission’s preparations to ensure a competitive and transparent process ahead of the 2026 polls.
