The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on political parties to issue party cards only to candidates who demonstrate a genuine commitment to service and leadership.
Addressing Kabaka’s subjects from Ssingo, Mawokota, and representatives from the New England region in the United States during a courtesy visit at Bulange Mengo, Mayiga emphasized that party endorsements should be reserved for individuals capable of representing the true interests of the people.
“Only those prepared to sacrifice for the good of Ugandans and lead with integrity should be entrusted with party flags,” he said.
He further urged the Electoral Commission to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections, stressing that credible electoral processes are essential for Uganda’s progress and long-term stability.
In a show of solidarity and support for the kingdom, Kabaka’s subjects from Ssingo, Mawokota, and the Ugandan Diaspora in New England contributed a total of UGX 73 million during the visit.
