Archbishop Kasujja urges Chaplains to tackle youth challenges at UMU Chaplaincy training

Papal Nuncio Emeritus, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja at UMU

The Papal Nuncio Emeritus, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, has called on Catholic chaplains to actively address the growing challenges facing Ugandan youth, including prostitution, alcoholism, and drug and substance abuse.

Speaking at the opening of the second annual chaplaincy training at Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), Nkozi, Archbishop Kasujja warned that failure to confront these issues could lead to widespread unproductivity among young people.

He also strongly condemned corruption and urged chaplains to extend their outreach to the increasing number of anxious and disillusioned youth across the country.

The week-long training aims to strengthen the capacity of chaplains to offer effective spiritual guidance in today’s evolving social and moral landscape.

UMU Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Fr. Christopher Mukidi, noted that the program is specifically designed to equip chaplains with the tools they need to address the changing spiritual needs of Uganda’s diverse communities.

More than 70 chaplains from 19 dioceses across Uganda are participating in the training, held at UMU’s main campus in Nkozi.
