Buganda kingdom has joined calls for the release of the four time presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye following the Supreme Court judgment that annulled the trial of civilians in army courts.

This call was made by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga during the official opening of the 2025 voluntary contribution by the Kabaka’s subjects towards the kingdom’s activities commonly known as “Luwalo Lwaffe”.

He wondered why the Government hasn’t released Besigye to receive medical treatment as it deals with the transfer of his case files from the General Court Martial to civil courts as directed by the Supreme Court.

Mayiga says the continued detention of Besigye in prison in his frail situation paints a bad image of the country.
