Kabanda Confident of Retaining Kampala Central Parliamentary Seat as Election Petition Hearing Continues

Kampala Minister Hajjat Minsa Kabanda

Kampala Minister Hajjat Minsa Kabanda has expressed confidence in retaining her parliamentary seat as proceedings in the election petition challenging her victory continue before the High Court in Kampala.

Kabanda made the remarks after the first session of the hearing, during which witnesses presented by the petitioner, Rubongoya, concluded their testimonies.

During the proceedings, several witnesses testified about alleged electoral irregularities, including claims of multiple voting, violence at polling stations and discrepancies in the electoral process.

Some witnesses also told court that they had reported the alleged incidents to their supervisors and the petitioner but did not file formal complaints with the police, explaining that security personnel were present when the incidents occurred.

Despite the allegations raised during the hearing, Kabanda maintained that she is the duly elected Member of Parliament for Kampala Central, expressing confidence that she will retain her seat following the determination of the petition.

The election petition is being heard by Justice Flavia Nabakooza of the High Court Civil Division in Kampala.

Kabanda is expected to take the witness stand today to respond to the allegations and defend her election victory as the proceedings enter another stage.
