The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is targeting to raise UGX 1.5 billion to support the renovation of public schools across the country through the 8th edition of the NSSF Kampala Hills Run scheduled for Sunday, December 6, 2026.
The Fund’s Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer, Babrah Teddy Orimi, announced the fundraising target, saying the initiative is aimed at improving learning conditions for children, particularly those in underserved communities.
Orimi explained that the campaign seeks to ensure that children in rural areas who lack access to quality education can study in safe and conducive classroom environments.
She said proceeds from the run will be used to renovate dilapidated classroom blocks, rebuild structures that have been condemned, replace hazardous asbestos roofing and repair classrooms with missing windows or roofs that have been blown off.
According to Orimi, the initiative is intended to address some of the infrastructure challenges affecting public schools, which continue to undermine the learning environment for many children.
She added that part of the funds raised will go towards promoting digital literacy among learners in public schools.
Orimi noted that the COVID-19 pandemic exposed significant inequalities in access to digital learning tools, with many learners in public schools, particularly those outside urban centres, struggling to continue their education due to limited access to computers, internet connectivity and other digital resources.
She said NSSF wants to contribute towards bridging this digital divide by supporting initiatives that improve access to technology and equip learners with relevant digital skills.
Orimi emphasised that the Kampala Hills Run is part of the Fund’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which seeks to complement government efforts in improving communities and addressing social challenges.
She said NSSF remains committed to initiatives that create lasting positive change in the lives of individuals, communities and society at large.
The annual Kampala Hills Run has become one of the Fund’s platforms for mobilising public participation and resources towards social development initiatives, with education remaining a key focus of this year’s fundraising campaign.
Through the UGX 1.5 billion target, NSSF hopes to contribute to safer school infrastructure and better learning opportunities for children across Uganda.
