Nansana Municipality Member of Parliament Zzambali Bulasio Mukasa has pledged to raise concerns over fire outbreaks in Parliament following a blaze that severely damaged Ivory Hotel in Nansana, Wakiso District.
The fire broke out today, October 20, reportedly starting from the rooftop before spreading to a larger section of the hotel building.
The Police Fire Brigade responded to the incident and worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames. No injuries were reported.
Hotel owner Andrew Kayiwa suspects that an electrical fault may have triggered the fire, although the cause has not yet been officially established.
Reacting to the incident, Mukasa said he would engage Parliament on the urgent need to equip the Directorate of Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services with more fire tenders and adequate funding to strengthen its capacity to respond to emergencies.
The legislator also called for greater involvement of the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) in strengthening measures to prevent fires suspected to result from electrical faults and sparks.
Mukasa said improved firefighting capacity, alongside stronger electrical safety measures, would help prevent the destruction of property and reduce risks to human life during fire outbreaks.
The incident has renewed concerns over fire preparedness and the need for better-equipped emergency response services, particularly in rapidly growing urban areas such as Nansana.
