The Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Kampala Central Division, Ali Shafik Nsubuga, has urged residents to work with elected Local Council One (LCI) chairpersons to promote peace, unity and development in their communities, regardless of their political affiliations.

Nsubuga made the remarks while presiding over the re-election of the Kasaato Zone LCI chairperson in Kisenyi, Kampala Central Division, where Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) candidate Suzani Kawuma emerged victorious with 196 votes.

Kawuma defeated his closest competitor, Nkoyoyo Kiwana of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who secured 83 votes.

Following the conclusion of the election, Nsubuga called on residents to put aside their political differences and work together to improve the social and economic well-being of their community.

He commended voters in Kasaato Zone for maintaining peace throughout the re-election exercise and urged them to sustain the spirit of unity as they embark on community development initiatives.

Nsubuga also thanked residents who turned up to participate in the election, noting the importance of community involvement in choosing local leaders.

Meanwhile, Kiwana questioned the credibility of the electoral process, accusing his competitor, Kawuma, of registering people who are not residents of Kasaato Zone on the village voters’ register.

The allegation raises concern about the voter registration process during the re-election, although no further details were provided regarding the claim.
