The newly installed King of Tooro, Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma Nyabongo I, has pledged to champion social and economic development in the Tooro Kingdom.

The King made the commitment today while delivering his message during his installation ceremony in Tooro.

He said his reign will focus on promoting development, protecting the environment and natural resources, and supporting the education of children, among other priorities.

The King also urged the people of Tooro to remain united and avoid divisions based on religion, emphasizing that unity is essential for the development and stability of the kingdom.

Meanwhile, King Nyabongo I thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), and all security forces for their role in maintaining security during the installation ceremony.

He also commended the Omusuga for his efforts to protect and promote the interests, culture, and heritage of the Tooro Kingdom.

At a separate coronation church service held at St John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal City, the Bishop of Ruwenzori Diocese, Rt. Rev. Reuben Kisembo, challenged the newly crowned King to restore accountability and transparency in the management of kingdom resources.

Bishop Kisembo urged the King to establish a strong administration, maintain proper books of account, and ensure that kingdom resources are used for their intended purposes.

The bishop made the remarks while preaching during the coronation service for Omukama Nyabongo I.

Nyabongo I attended the service accompanied by his wife, Queen Rebecca Amoding, his mother, Yusta Asiimwe Kijanangoma, Musuuga Charles Kamurasi, and other members of the royal family.
