Former Butambala Member of Parliament Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has been granted a cash bail of three million shillings by the Butambala Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The court, presided over by Grade One Magistrate Aminah Wahab, granted bail to Muwanga Kivumbi after his application met the required conditions. His sureties were each required to provide a non-cash bail of two million shillings.

As part of the bail conditions, Muwanga Kivumbi has been ordered not to enter Butambala District until the conclusion of his case.

His lawyer, Sam Mulindwa Muyizzi, said the granting of bail marks the completion of the first stage of the legal process.

Meanwhile, Acting NUP President and Manjiya Member of Parliament John Baptist Nambeshe expressed gratitude to the people of Butambala for the support and solidarity they have shown towards Muwanga Kivumbi.

NUP Secretary General David Lewis Lubongoya also welcomed the court’s decision, saying the ruling is a success for both the people of Butambala and the party.

Muwanga Kivumbi was later taken back to the cells as arrangements were made to complete the necessary paperwork and proceed to the bank to make the required payments.
