Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has held a follow-up meeting with city traders’ associations to discuss concerns raised at the State House Investors Protection Unit and explore possible solutions to challenges affecting businesses in Kampala.

The meeting brought together representatives from the National Entrepreneurs and Traders Association (NETA), Federation of Uganda Traders Associations (FUTA), Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), Kampala Arcades Traders Association (KATA), and Uganda National Traders Alliance (UNATA).

During the meeting, traders’ leaders outlined the challenges they face while operating businesses in the city and called for urgent intervention from KCCA.

NETA Chairperson Thadeus Nagenda Musoke asked KCCA to identify suitable locations where free market days and evening markets can be established for street vendors who were evicted from operating on Kampala streets.

Musoke also called on KCCA to intervene in disputes involving city landlords who fail to pay taxes, resulting in the closure of shops occupied by traders who continue to pay their monthly rent.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the United Arcader Traders Entrepreneur Association (UATEA), Edward Ntale, asked KCCA to stop taxis from operating in front of traders’ shops, saying their presence affects business operations.

Ntale also called for compensation for victims of flooding in the city and urged KCCA to remove temporary structures erected inside city shops.

The meeting is part of ongoing engagements between KCCA and city traders aimed at addressing concerns affecting businesses and improving the trading environment in Kampala.
