The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has reported several cases of examination malpractice and alleged misappropriation of registration fees as the ongoing Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations enter their final week.
Speaking during a security press briefing at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday, October 26, UNEB Principal Public Relations Officer Jennifer Kalule-Musamba said the first two weeks of the examinations had progressed successfully, with no major challenges reported.
However, she disclosed that authorities had recorded isolated cases of malpractice and irregularities involving examination registration.
In Mpigi District, the headteacher of Sheperd House High School, Ann Mugisha, was issued a police bond over allegations that she received Shs300,000 in registration fees but failed to register a student, Sumaya Nakato, for the examinations.
Mugisha reportedly agreed to pay the student’s fees for a remedial year.
Other cases of examination malpractice involved candidates allegedly found in possession of smuggled examination materials during Biology practical examinations in Bududa District, Agriculture examinations in Kibaale District and Physics practical examinations in Natete, Kampala.
Kalule-Musamba said investigations into the reported incidents were ongoing. The affected candidates have, however, been allowed to continue sitting their examinations as inquiries proceed.
The UCE examinations are scheduled to conclude on November 3, 2026.
UNEB has continued to work with security agencies to monitor the examination process and address irregularities as candidates complete their papers.
