Police have arrested the prime suspect in connection with the murder of veteran Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu.
The suspect, identified by Kampala Metropolitan Police as Nsamba Vincent, 41, was apprehended in Ochange Ward, Yesu Amala, Nansana Division, Wakiso District, following investigations into the circumstances surrounding Matovu’s death.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the arrest, saying investigations are still ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify all those responsible.
The arrest has also been welcomed by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who commended security agencies for what he described as the swift apprehension of the prime suspect.
In a statement, Muhoozi thanked security forces operating under the inter-agency security architecture and said the suspect, whom he identified as Nsamba Arnold, also known as Sitenda, is in custody and will face the law.
Police have not yet disclosed further details about the alleged motive or circumstances leading to Matovu’s death, as investigations continue.
Matovu, a veteran musician and saxophonist, was a prominent figure in Uganda’s music industry and spent decades performing with the legendary Afrigo Band.
His death has sparked widespread mourning among musicians, fans and public figures.
