The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has handed over 32 brand-new vehicles to Resident State Attorneys (RSAs) across the country to support service delivery.
The vehicles have been allocated to RSAs in districts including Budaka, Bugiri, Mityana, Mpigi, Kyotera, Maracha, Kalangala, Kasanda and Yumbe, among others.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Nakawa Court on Thursday morning, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr. Lino Anguzu, said the vehicles demonstrate the ODPP’s commitment to improving the operations of Resident State Attorneys.
Anguzu said the vehicles are expected to improve the mobility of RSAs and help address some of the complaints received from members of the public regarding access to prosecutorial services.
He urged the recipients to use the vehicles responsibly and ensure that the drivers assigned to them are properly supervised.
The Permanent Secretary of the ODPP, Agnes Kainza Nzogi, said the 32 vehicles add to the institution’s existing fleet, which previously included 95 vehicles that were in poor condition when she assumed office.
Nzogi said the ODPP has since acquired a total of 130 new vehicles, which are currently supporting service delivery across the country.
However, she noted that the ODPP still requires an additional 50 vehicles to address the remaining transport challenges faced by Resident State Attorneys.
The ODPP says improved transport facilities will enable Resident State Attorneys to effectively carry out their duties and enhance access to justice across the country.
