Tooro Kingdom Chief Prince (Omusuga) Charles Kamurasi has summoned members of the royal family to an emergency meeting at Karuziika Palace following the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

Kamurasi announced through local media that the closed-door meeting would be held at the palace today, Friday, August 28, 2026, starting at 11:00 a.m.

Those summoned include the Ababiito and Ababiitokati—the princes and princesses—as well as the Abeihwa, a group that includes the King’s nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

The agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed. However, the gathering comes amid heightened public interest in the succession process following the kingdom’s announcement that King Oyo left behind an heir.

Kamurasi, who is formally known as Omujwera Omusuga, heads the Babiito royal clan, also known as the Ababoyo, and serves as Tooro’s Chief Prince.

His position gives him a significant role in the kingdom’s royal affairs, particularly during the process leading to the installation of a new Omukama.

Meanwhile, Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki has called for calm among Tooro subjects, saying any further arrangements concerning the King’s death and the succession process will be communicated in due course.
