Opposition politician Rtd. Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye again missed court on Wednesday as proceedings continued in the treason case in which he and his co-accused, Hajj Obeid Lutale and UPDF Captain Denis Oola Oyar, are charged.
Besigye last appeared in court on July 29, 2026, when he collapsed during the proceedings.
The prosecution, led by Richard Birivumbuka, continued presenting audio and video evidence, with the recordings played in court lasting approximately two hours and 49 minutes.
Besigye’s defence team is led by Farouk Kizito Kamulegeya, while Sylvia Namawejje represents Captain Denis Oola Oyar.
During the proceedings, prosecution witness Wilson Andrew, alias Orlando, told court that a meeting allegedly took place on January 28, 2021. However, the video played in court bore a date of May 24, 2020.
Wilson testified that he met Besigye and Wakayima in Central Geneva before later joining them at a hotel apartment. He said he had presented his passport to court as evidence that he was in Geneva at the time.
The witness further told court that an audio recording contained discussions allegedly relating to the assassination of President Yoweri Museveni and a sum of five million US dollars purportedly intended to facilitate the training of terrorists in Kisumu, Kenya.
Wilson also alleged that Besigye was involved in plans to mobilise people and undertake other activities ahead of the elections.
He described the group he was representing, referred to as the “Imaginary Company,” as an organised network seeking to work with what he termed a friendly government. The treason proceedings are continuing.
