Two of the three children who survived the deadly stabbing attack in Bunga have been discharged from Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Police said the victims, aged 13 and 10, were discharged today, Monday, August 24, while the third child remains admitted but is now in stable condition.

The bodies of the two children who died in the attack, 14-year-old Daisy Khadija Traore and Danita Mariam Traore, were handed over to their father after postmortem examinations. They were buried at Kololo Muslim Cemetery on Friday.

Dorothy Namayo, a 43-year-old Kenyan national and the mother who is the prime suspect in the attack, remains under medical treatment and police guard at Mulago.

Her condition has reportedly improved following injuries she allegedly inflicted on herself.

Police said Namayo recorded a statement with detectives over the weekend in which she attributed her actions to prolonged domestic conflicts with her husband, which she described as unbearable.

She reportedly told detectives that she had intended to end the lives of her children as well as her own.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Rachel Kawala said investigations are continuing to verify Namayo’s account and establish the full sequence of events, including the order in which the children were stabbed, the circumstances surrounding Namayo’s injuries and the arson involving a Toyota Hiace.

Police have revisited the scene and obtained CCTV footage as part of efforts to establish what happened before and during the incident.

Investigators are also waiting for Namayo’s condition to improve further so that she can participate in a scene reconstruction.
