The Uganda Police Force has clarified the categories of people who will be exempted from movement restrictions during the second National Cleaning Day scheduled for Saturday, August 29.

Addressing the media at Police headquarters in Naguru today, Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke said the movement of vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and vessels will be restricted nationwide from 7am to 10am to allow the public to participate in cleaning activities within their communities.

Rusoke said patients seeking medical attention and people attending scheduled medical treatment will be allowed to move during the restricted hours.

Those going for scheduled treatment have been advised to carry relevant medical documents to justify their movement.

He added that emergency service vehicles and medical personnel will also be exempted.

Rusoke clarified that the exemption for medical personnel covers nurses, radiographers and other healthcare workers, and is not limited to doctors. He advised them to carry valid identification while travelling.

Other exempted categories include security personnel on duty, including private security guards and personal security officers, as well as cross-border vehicles operating along their designated routes.

People travelling abroad, including those heading to the airport, will also be allowed to move during the restricted period. Foreign tourists travelling to or from tourist destinations are similarly exempted.

Journalists on duty will also be permitted to travel to facilitate coverage of the National Cleaning Day activities.

Rusoke urged all exempted persons to carry proper identification and warned members of the public against confronting police officers enforcing the movement restrictions.

He advised anyone with concerns about the restrictions or exemptions to seek clarification from senior police officers.
