The President of the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has criticized the government over what he describes as the misuse of public officials serving under President Yoweri Museveni’s administration.
In a statement released on Monday, Kyagulanyi alleged that some officials entrusted with public office have been used to advance the government’s political interests at the expense of justice and the rights of Ugandans.
He further claimed that such officials are often abandoned once they are no longer considered politically useful.
Kyagulanyi referred to several current and former government officials, including the reported resignation of Uganda Human Rights Commission Chairperson Mariam Wangadya, saying public servants should remember that positions of authority are temporary, while their reputations endure.
He urged public officials to uphold integrity, serve the interests of Ugandans, and remain committed to the principles of justice and accountability rather than partisan interests.
Kyagulanyi also cautioned that political power and the protection associated with public office are temporary.
The government had not publicly responded to Kyagulanyi’s remarks by the time of publication.
