The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) is set to convene this Friday to vet 43 aspirants seeking the party’s endorsement for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, confirmed the development after the close of the expression of interest process for the two EALA positions at the party headquarters in Kampala.
Dr. Tanga said the Central Executive Committee will determine whether to forward only two names or a larger shortlist to the NRM Parliamentary Caucus for final consideration.
He urged all aspirants to remain available for further communication regarding the vetting process.
He noted that the exercise marks the next stage in the party’s selection process ahead of the election of Uganda’s representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly.
Several aspirants who picked nomination forms have already outlined their priorities, saying they intend to promote regional integration, strengthen trade and economic cooperation, and advance Uganda’s interests within the East African Community if elected to the regional parliament.
