Police Rescue 18 Juveniles in Wakiso Suspected Child Trafficking Case, Two Arrested

Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke

Police in Wakiso District have rescued 18 juveniles and arrested two suspects following a suspected child trafficking incident uncovered in Kakunyu Village, Wakiso Town Council.

According to Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, officers acted on information from local council leaders and residents who raised alarm over an unusually large number of children reportedly living in a house under suspicious conditions.

A joint security operation led to the rescue of 18 juveniles—nine boys and nine girls—aged between three and 12 years. The children were found living in two dilapidated rooms under what authorities described as questionable circumstances.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the minors may have been transported from Luwero and Masindi districts under unclear conditions, raising concerns of possible trafficking and exploitation.

Police arrested George Mulindwa, a 33-year-old teacher, and Madina Babirye, 24, a casual worker, to assist with ongoing investigations into the case.

Rusoke commended local leaders and residents for their vigilance, noting that community intelligence played a key role in uncovering the incident.

He also urged parents whose children may have gone missing or been taken from their homes to report to the nearest police stations to aid identification and reunification efforts.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the relocation of the children and whether more suspects could be involved in the suspected trafficking network.
