Police in Kampala have arrested two suspects linked to motorcycle theft and recovered a motorcycle believed to have been stolen during an operation in the city centre.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, officers at Central Police Station acted on intelligence received indicating that two men at Shamba Complex were allegedly using motorcycle registration number UFX 998T while stealing another motorcycle registered as UEA 094J.
Police said officers swiftly responded to the information, tracked the suspects, and arrested them before recovering the suspected stolen motorcycle. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Kawala said the arrests are part of intensified crime prevention operations across the Kampala Metropolitan area aimed at curbing rising criminal activity and improving public safety.
In a wider crackdown, police operations around the High Court Traffic Lights, Independence Monument, Railway Grounds and Arua Park led to the arrest of 40 suspects at Central Police Station Kampala.
Additional operations conducted by Kira Road Police Station in Kyaliwajjala, Nabwojo and Kira Municipality resulted in the arrest of six more suspects.
Meanwhile, officers from Katwe Police Division arrested 42 suspects during coordinated operations in Base and Katende Zones in Katwe I Parish, Makindye Division.
Police also recovered exhibits including suspected narcotic drugs and stolen mobile phones during the operations.
Authorities said all suspects remain in custody as investigations continue and warned that similar intelligence-led operations will be sustained across the city to deter criminal activity and enhance public security.
