Police Hunt for Owners, Builders After Collapsed Structure Kills Five-Year-Old Girl

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire

Police have launched investigations to identify and trace the owners and constructors of a poorly built structure that collapsed and killed a five-year-old girl in Lweza B Cell, Makindye Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.

The tragic incident occurred while the child was playing near the structure when it suddenly gave way, causing severe head injuries.

According to police, the girl sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to them. Her body was transported to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations into the incident continue.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said authorities are working to establish the ownership of the structure and identify those responsible for its construction.

Investigators are examining whether negligence, poor workmanship, or failure to comply with approved building standards contributed to the collapse.

Police have cautioned property owners, contractors, and developers to prioritize public safety and strictly adhere to construction regulations to prevent similar tragedies.

Owoyesigyire warned that anyone found responsible for negligence or violations of building standards could face legal action.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek answers surrounding the circumstances that led to the fatal collapse.
