Bukuya MP Michael Bukenya Sworn In for Third Term, Bringing 12th Parliament to 528 Members

Bukuya County Member of Parliament for Mubende District, Michael Bukenya

The Bukuya County Member of Parliament for Mubende District, Michael Bukenya, has finally been sworn in for his third term, increasing the total number of MPs in Uganda’s 12th Parliament to 528.

Bukenya missed the official swearing-in ceremony for Members of Parliament held last week for reasons that were not disclosed at the time.

Speaking to journalists at Parliament shortly after taking the oath, which was administered by Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige, Bukenya explained that the Clerk had been formally notified of his absence and had written to Parliament a month earlier.

He added that arrangements had been made for him to take the oath at a later date.

The MP also called for disciplinary action against parliamentary staff whom he accused of claiming that Parliament was unaware of his whereabouts, a situation he said caused unnecessary concern among his constituents in Bukuya County.

His swearing-in now completes his formal entry into the 12th Parliament following his re-election.
