Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among’s lawyer, Caleb Alak, has said his client will soon issue an official statement regarding ongoing investigations.
Alak made the remarks while speaking to journalists at Parliament shortly before officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), supported by other security agencies, began a search of the former Speaker’s office.
He described the investigations as being surrounded by what he called “false narratives,” stressing the need for his client to provide a formal clarification. He said the statement will be released in due course.
By press time, CID officers and other security personnel were still conducting searches at the offices of the former Speaker, as well as those of the Clerk to Parliament and the Director of Finance.
The searches were being carried out in the presence of lawyers representing the affected officials.
Tension remained high within Parliament as the operation continued.
