Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong

The government of Uganda has intensified preparations for the swearing-in and inauguration of President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the 2026–2031 presidential term.

Authorities are focusing on security measures, international participation, and extensive public arrangements for the event. According to Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, the inauguration will be held at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

The Constitution mandates that the president-elect assumes office within 24 hours following the expiry of the predecessor’s term.

The law also requires the president-elect to first take the oath of allegiance and the presidential oath before officially assuming office.

The ceremony, scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., will be held under the theme: “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.”

Preparations are being coordinated by the National Organising Committee, led by Secretary in the Office of the President Hajji Yunus Kakande, with strategic oversight from a high-level team chaired by Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet Lucy Nakyobe.

The government confirmed that several heads of state and foreign delegations from Africa and beyond have been invited, with over 30 international delegations already confirming their participation.
