Kampala Capital City Authority has registered a significant increase in local revenue following the enforcement of trade order regulations across the city.
The announcement was made by Executive Director Sharifa Buzeki at the Uganda Media Centre, revealing that more than 22,900 new business licenses were issued between February and late April, generating over 5 billion shillings in revenue.
The enforcement exercise, which began on February 19, is aimed at decongesting the city and restoring order.
KCCA reports that illegal street obstructions and unauthorized vending have been cleared, leading to improved movement and more organized business environments across Kampala.
In addition, infrastructure upgrades including road markings, drainage repairs, and improved street lighting are underway to enhance the city’s outlook and functionality.
Traders have been encouraged to relocate to gazetted markets, with more than 1,600 spaces already occupied.
Meanwhile, the government has commenced testing electric buses, with a full rollout expected by the end of May.
KCCA is urging the public to support its efforts to create a cleaner, more orderly and efficient city.
