KCCA Intensifies Child Protection Efforts as City Welfare Programs Expand

Executive Director Sharifa Buzeki

Kampala Capital City Authority has strengthened efforts to protect vulnerable children and enhance community welfare as part of its broader city transformation agenda.

Speaking at the Uganda Media Centre, Executive Director Sharifa Buzeki revealed that 365 children have been rescued from the streets over the past three months and placed under care for rehabilitation, education, and eventual family reunification.

Some of the children are currently being supported at Masulita Children’s Home, while more than 190 others have been resettled in Napak District, with many now enrolled in school.

KCCA has also taken action against negligent parents and issued a warning against the practice of medical begging.

Authorities say affected individuals are being taken to health facilities for support, while offenders face possible prosecution.

Residents have been urged to support the initiative by channeling assistance through recognized care centers rather than giving directly on the streets.

Meanwhile, construction of the Kitezi–Kiti Road has officially commenced.

The project, funded by the African Development Bank, is expected to improve livelihoods and connectivity upon completion in three years.

KCCA says these initiatives are part of a wider plan to build a clean, safe, and inclusive city.
