The public has been urged to embrace voluntary blood donation as a life-saving act, amid growing concerns over the reported sale of blood to routine donors.
Speaking to journalists at Victoria University Kampala, the Vice Chancellor, Lawrence Muganga, said the institution has organized a blood donation drive targeting at least 200 units from students and the general public.
Dr. Muganga emphasized that blood donation plays a critical role in saving lives, particularly for mothers during childbirth, road accident victims, and patients suffering from Sickle Cell Disease.
However, he warned against the alleged practice of selling blood to regular donors, noting that it undermines voluntary participation and erodes public trust in the system.
He called on Ugandans to donate blood regularly, stressing that a safe and reliable supply can only be sustained through voluntary contributions.
