Pope Leo XIV has departed Equatorial Guinea

Pope Leo XIV has departed Equatorial Guinea, bringing to a close his 11-day apostolic journey across Africa.

The Pope left Malabo at around 2 p.m. local time, where he was formally seen off by government officials at the airport before boarding his flight back to Rome.

Since April 13, Pope Leo XIV has been undertaking his third Apostolic Journey abroad, during which he visited Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea.

Throughout the tour, he delivered messages centered on peace and reconciliation, reflecting on each nation’s history, present challenges, and future aspirations.

He also encouraged citizens to remain hopeful while urging leaders to uphold justice, unity, and social harmony.

Pope Leo XIV is expected to arrive in Rome at around 8 p.m. local time. During the return flight, he is scheduled to hold his customary in-flight press briefing with accompanying journalists aboard the papal plane.
