Parliament has held a special sitting this afternoon to honor the life and service of the late Hon. Hellen Nakimuli, former Woman Member of Parliament for Kalangala District.
Presiding over the session, Anita Annet Among described Nakimuli as a compassionate and humble leader whose conduct in the House set her apart.
She noted that Nakimuli’s contributions to debate were consistently evidence-based and delivered with calmness and respect rather than confrontation.
The Speaker urged Members of Parliament to emulate her example, observing that her impact within nearly a single term reflected a much longer period of dedicated service.
Speaker Among, also highlighted Nakimuli’s contributions beyond legislative work, particularly in sports.
She credited her active participation in volleyball, basketball, and netball as instrumental in Parliament’s strong performance at the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games.
Moving a motion to pay tribute, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja described Nakimuli as a hardworking and vocal legislator committed to improving the welfare of island communities.
Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi also paid tribute, praising her service in the shadow cabinet and her firm stance on transparency, accountability, and good governance.
Meanwhile, the Speaker confirmed that Nakimuli’s postmortem report has been handed over to her family following consultations with medical professionals.
